Asley Quickle: I agree with Jim home depot carries a means estimating guide. I try to get a 1/3 to 1/2 of my bids if I get them all I'm doing something wrong and if I don't get any I'm doing something wrong I don't hesitate to ask my customers where I fall I don't ask who just where I fall on the bid scale. try to stay in the middle and you'll be OK
Verdie Wollen: Well you should know these facts first NO GC wants to openly discuss pricing especially with a competitor, depends on the type of work your doing SFU / MDU (single family unit or multi dwelling unit) either New or Remodel you definitely need to charge by the LF (linear foot) you want help throwing out your first quote I take it....hit this link http://www.atlantasbestcontractors.com and call Rob yes I am better at building with wood than HTML...Show more
Son Ahlers: Actually there are two ways. The first would be an attempt to determine what the "going" rate is for finish/trim carpenters in your ar! ea.The 2nd way is to get a cost estimating publication. I used to use the "Home-Tech Renovation and Remodeling Cost Estimator". Home-Tech does have a website, plug it into your search engine. They have a local cost modification index which allows for different pricings in different parts of the country. I found it to be an excellent and reliable source for doing take-offs on any job. There is another cost estimator - "Means" but I always found that one difficult to use. The costs associated with purchasing the Home-Tech book can be written off as business expense. Rather than "winging it" on pricings, get an estimator publication and be sure of your prices rather than being the "low" bidder on every job, and losing money....Show more
Len Dalba: Select three different companies that you would like to use and throughly check them out through the BBB. Contact each company and ask them to come and give you an estimate for the job. When they come, inform them that you are! seeking the best price and quality for your job and let them ! know that you will be thinking it over and if their company is selected, you will all them. Shouldn't be hard, but please make sure you go with a company that stands by their work with warrenties and whatever so you do not get ripped off. Best of luck...Show more
