My 11 year old has a concussion?

Jeremy Donohue: treat any pain, ice the injury, and let the child rest. follow up with the pediatrician if you have a medical concern.

Karey Dunken: Did they do any tests at the hospital?Did they check his pupils? Check his balance? Ask him some questions to check his cognition? Is he vomiting or acting confused? Does he remember what happened?I'm normally a "wait and see" parent, but brain injuries can escalate very quickly. In a case like this, I would feel most comfortable with him staying overnight for observation and/or having a CT scan to check for signs of more serious injury. If you feel like the hospital was thorough on the first visit, follow up with his doctor tomorrow by phone. Arnette Dominici: Did the ER do a CT scan if not! take him back. while a concussion is not fun, a serious injury to the head could also cause a blood clot. do not let them push you around. if you need to go to a different er. if the er doc did not do a CT scan or mri he did not do you justice. if your son has a concussion he could have symptoms for a few days or up to a year . my daughter developed migraines after concussion and still has them 5 months later. don't mess around be that protective mama bear and bit a head off if you need to.joannRN...Show more
